THINGS OF LOVE
Antonio Ortuño

October 13 – 27
Opening reception Saturday Oct. 13 6pm

Spanish video artist Antonio Ortuño exhibits his new work
"Things of love" at Local Project gallery in Queens, New York.
With his new project "Things of Love", Antonio Ortuño delves into the hidden side of love, the part we always forget when we mention this beautiful word. The show opens on October 13th with a reception and a performance by Elisabeth Devlin at Local Project.

Love, but also fear, pleasure, anguish, happiness, anxiety and doubt, among other emotions,
all make a part of Ortuño's work.

He hopes in some way to de-dramatize the situations and eliminate their aggressive tone, so that the viewer doesn't feel them directly, but rather reflects and understands their meaning, the reason for their existence.

Antonio Ortuño expresses himself through single-channel video, video installation, and video combined with art. These are empathetic tools that help him better reflect circumstances that are otherwise hard to assimilate or understand, sometimes due to our own ignorance about ourselves, given the little interest we have in introspection or, simply, due to the fear of knowing how we actually are in our most intimate beings. Using a video installation, two videos, two series of boxes and performance (the day of the opening), Ortuño wants to reveal the spectacle that is jealousy, rejection, lack of communication and abandonment-feelings that make up part of the dark side of the heart.

LOVE: strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.

When you find love, or rather, when we fall in love, everything is wonderful, life takes on a new color, you hear birds chirping, you take note of things never notcied before, you greet your enemies, you give up your seat on the subway with a big smile; to conclude, you see everything from a different point of view.
But there is another side to love that we do not like as much, one could be so in love and have different sentiments such as feeling abandoned by a loved one, jealousy, neglect, lack of communication and/or understanding, etc. For these reasons this project seeks to demonstrate some of the different sentiments that are tied to love.

October 13-27
open in the week to 5 pm at 9 pm.
With the support of the Consulate General Of Spain in New York.

Pilgrimage Performance of Nicolas Dumit
Symposium at the Local Project Gallery.
With Collaboration of the Queens Museum of Art, LMCC and Local Queens Libraries

Estévez stages a series of pilgrimages that reverse the relationship between art and religion, modeling his piece after the Catholic El Camino de Compostela in Spain, where devotees travel to the tomb of St James. Religion becomes a tool in the service of art as the artist endures separate journeys that begin in Lower Manhattan and conclude at seven museums. Upon completion of each penance, a passport credential is signed by the director of the institution or by an appointed official.

Estévez journeys for two days from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council to the Queens Museum of Art, stopping at Queens public libraries along the way to continue disseminating knowledge about performance art. During his path through Queens he is given posada (shelter) at artist run collective and gallery Local Project and The Y Gallery; both organizations will offer a community meal and art talk to celebrate Estévez' visits. The departing blessing will be delivered cell-epathically from Berlin by independent curator Alanna Lockward.
